crush.jpgBrian “Crush” Adams was found dead in his Tampa home by his wife.  She called 911 saying he wasn’t breathing and paramedics were unable to revive him.   Adams was 43 years old.  His death is the 108th pro wrestler under the age of 50 to die in the past decade.

Adams debuted in the WWE in 1990 becoming the 3rd member of legendary tag team, Demolition.  The Hawaii native was also a two time WCW World Tag Team Champ, WWF Tag Team Champ and All Japan Pro Wrestling World Tag Team Champ.  Adams was forced into retirement in January 2003 when he suffered a spinal injury during a wrestling match.  In his wrestling days, he went by the names American Ninja, Demolition Crush, Crush, Kona Crush, Brian Adams, B. A. and The Demon.

I actually got to meet Brian very briefly after a match between The “New” Demolition and The Hart Foundation with extra member Hacksaw Jim Duggan.  (I was heavy into the pro-wrestling in the 80’s and 90’s)  He was a very sweet guy and of the 3 Demolition members was the only one who approached me when I said hello.  I told him even though I was rooting for the Hart Foundation, I still liked him and thought he was a good addition to the tag team.  He smiled and gave me a hug and thanked me for the support.  Funny, I almost forgot about that because I was more excited about meeting Bret Hart that night.  I’ve met a string of wrestlers who were all like Brian, a class act toward the fans.  Many of them are now gone.  It breaks my heart when I see another wrestler die.  They were such a big part of my life because I went to the matches, front row every time.  It was the best stress relief you could imagine.  Everyone was so charismatic back then but had talent.  Nowadays you could pick a small handful with the talent that was oozing from the business back then.  My sympathy goes out to Brian’s wife and family and to his fans who never forgot about him.
