If you want a piece of reality TV history on DVD, the Dog the Bounty Hunter episode where the boys are arrested by federal agents was released today. The official description is as follows:
Tim, Leland and Dog’s recent capture of convicted serial rapist Andrew Luster should have culminated in celebration — instead, it led to their own arrest. Dog The Bounty Hunter: The Arrest investigates Dog’s shocking incarceration through first-hand accounts of the events leading up the arrest, and exclusive interviews with Dog, Beth, and their feisty posse.
For the keiki…

In perusing the internet for something fun for the keiki (kids), I came across Doublebrush.com. Full of all kinds of cool homemade candles and body products with island flair, this website has all kinds of great gifts for the holidays or to pamper yourself.
One thing that caught my eye were the Keiki Finger Puppet Postcards of Hawaiian Endangered Species. I got one of each and was excited to see detail of each animal which was hand drawn by one of the owners, Cheryl. The color drawings are on the front with little dotted lines for the parents to cut out the holes where the child’s fingers go. On the back is a bit of information about that animal like its Hawaiian name, where it lives and what it eats. These postcards can be purchased ahead of a trip and sent as a souvenir to a special child in your life or just as a fun thing to buy your child and sneak some education in at the same time! They cost either $1.25 each or you can get the set of four for $4.95. Each card is packaged in a protective plastic sleeve bag and comes with directions. Head on over to Doublebrush.com and pick up these adorable postcard finger puppets for your keiki!

Not a fan of the chilly fall nights and looking for a tropical getaway? Whether you’re on a neighbor island, mainland or anywhere in the world you can turn Halloween into an excuse to get away to Lahaina, Maui for their Halloween on Front St. event. This *may* be your last year to take advantage of this event as there has been controversy surrounding the party atmosphere this party is known for. Halloween in Lahaina
The Legend of Halloween, celebrated since 1990, is more than just a night on the town in costume! Over 20,000 revelers come to Front Street on Halloween night, which is closed to vehicle traffic from 3:30 to 11:30pm. Annual children’s costume parade down Front Street at 4:30 kicks-off the evening. Other features include Halloween-themed crafts and activities, and food & beverage booths under the Banyan Tree which raise funds for nonprofits. Live music is performed on two stages while revelers dance in the street. LahainaTown presents the Maui Tacos Halloween Costume Contest in Banyan Tree Park, beginning at 7pm. Restaurants and shopping centers offer costume contests throughout the evening. Free admission.

Aloha Coco Palms…
Filed Under Hawaii Icons | 3 Comments
Well it seems the investors, Coco Palms Ventures, LLC are taking their toys and going home. Those of us hoping to see the Coco Palms Hotel returned to its former grandeur as promised for years now by this investment group have come to an end. The group’s interest fizzled after the Kauai Planning Commission’s decision to not allow a previously approved spa/fitness facility by the old tennis courts. They felt this was a key component to be able to compete with other resorts. I really feel both sides are being selfish and stubborn in not thinking of all of the good this place could do for helping Kauai heal after the hotel was damaged by Hurricane Iniki in 1992. That is the last building still reminding folks of the natural disaster. This investment group really did jump through a lot of hoops to make sure that the cultural aspect and respect for the land was preserved. They were doing it right. I can’t believe after the time, money and passion they put into this project they’re throwing their hands up at the final sticking point. I almost wonder if it’s a power play. It’s a pretty big gamble to take with the future of a cultural and pop culture icon that people just want to see restored. As many know, Coco Palms was featured in the Elvis Presley movie “Blue Hawaii.” The property will be auctioned off by the end of the year to another developer.
