True Aloha would like to extend its heartfelt congratulations and aloha to the Warrior football team who defeated Boise State for the WAC Championship last night!  This of course means Hawaii remains undefeated and this has everyone looking with anticipation at where the BCS poll will place the Warriors.  C’mon BCS, you’ve GOTTA recognize…what more do these boys need to do??

Warriors win in spectacular nailbiter!

You ever see one of those games where it’s all on the line and it comes down to one man?  Last night kicker Dan Kelly (#86) was that man pulling out a 45 yard field goal the last 15 seconds of the game and made it…BUT…a nanosecond before that field goal was kicked, Nevada Wolf Pack coach Chris Ault called their last time out making it in vain.  Hawaii was down by one.  The players were all holding hands on the sidelines in anticipation.  The hubby and I were screeching, twitching and knee bouncing in nervousness.  This was it.  If Kelly didn’t make it, the Warriors undefeated streak would end in Reno, Nevada and the chance for a BCS bowl game would be gone.

At 11.7 seconds left in the game, Dan Kelly kicked that ball right between the uprights for a successful field goal and Hawaii’s undefeated streak remained in tact.  In the middle of the night on the east coast, these 2 Hawaii fans were screaming, crying, laughing, applauding and relieved that our Bows were able to pull off the impossible.  Now the world will be able to see our boys for the winners they are.  People are waiting for Hawaii to fail because they’re such underdogs.  Well this wahine is all about the underdogs and last night’s game was about making dreams come true.  Last night wasn’t about the talents of quarterback Colt Brennan for which the team is typically known as he was sidelined most of the night as a precaution.  Last night was about a great football TEAM who deserves all of the praise they’re getting and what a team they are!

We’re still living the dream with you Warriors.  Whether local, mainland or halfway around the world, Warrior fans are proud of you and can’t wait to see you shine in a BCS bowl.  Keep up the awesome work!

Warriors win; Brennan down

Just watched a great game that had the Warriors coming out on top, now making them and Kansas the only remaining undefeated teams in college football!

Toward the end of the 4th quarter, superstar quarterback Colt Brennan was leveled by a Fresno player which should have resulted in a penalty minimum as it looked helmet to helmet.  I’d be lying if for a second I didn’t think I’d just witnessed a career ending injury take place.  As most players for both teams kneeled around him on the field, I shed a tear or two and said a little prayer.  After what seemed like a lifetime, Colt finally stood on his shaky legs and was in obvious pain.  He was taken from the field with the fans chanting “Colt, Colt, Colt….”  As of right now, no update has been given as to whether Brennan is okay or if this will affect the rest of the season.

True Aloha extends its congratulations to the Warriors and good thoughts in hopes Colt is okay.  We’re proud of you all!

Update:  Brennan has a mild concussion and is expected to play in next week’s game.

Don’t forget!

Tonight on ESPN you’ll be able to catch the Hawaii Warriors take on San Jose State at 8pm EST (check local listings in your neck of the woods)  Colt Brennan says he’s geared up and ready to go.  If you didn’t read about last week’s game, Colt had to come out after the first quarter, scoring 10 pts.  BUT the final score was 52-37 against Utah State which means that we have a kick ass team this year overall!

Oh man, not that I want Ohio State to lose but as Hawaii continues to crawl up the ranks the dream game of OSU playing UH could come true and this would be one happy wahine!!!

Hawaii Warrior Football Schedule

I am pumped for football season to start!  I’m not an NFL gal but I love Hawaii Warrior and OSU Buckeye college football.  Looks like we’re gonna luck out Warrior fans with THREE televised broadcasts of the #24 ranked Hawaii football team this year.  Below is the schedule.  Check our events calendar to be reminded of when ESPN will be showing these games.

September 2       Northern Colorado      12:05 AM ET

September 8       at Louisiana Tech         7:00 PM ET

September 15     at UNLV                        9:30 PM ET

September 23    Charleston Southern    12:05 AM ET

September 29     at Idaho                         5:00 PM ET

October 7            Utah State                     12:05 AM ET

October 12          at San Jose State          8:00 PM ET    *ESPN/ESPN360*

October 28         New Mexico State         12:05 AM ET

November 10     Fresno State                  11:05 PM ET

November 23     Boise State                      9:05 PM ET    *ESPN2/ESPN360*

December 1        Washington                      TBA

(On a side note I have to give a big hearty dropping trou moon to The Big Ten Network who has singled handedly screwed up the viewing of OSU games for some games this year.  Big 10 towns are now unable to see many of these games in their homes any more as a majority of local cable companies were not able to afford the outrageous licensing fees involved without passing on the cost to all of their subscribers.  Just another example of how the almighty dollar and corporate greed are ruining this nation.   Apparently merchandising and buying tickets to the games aren’t enough.  Of course many in Hawaii have already had to deal with this since they have to pay Oceanic Cable to see the Warriors play if they didn’t go to the stadium.  How much? $60 PER GAME!!!!  This is completely disgusting to me.  It’s the worst form of financial blackmail to people who want to do nothing more than support their hometown boys and enjoy some good football.  Shame on you!)

*Stepping off soapbox*

Congrats to the UH Warrior football team!

For the first time in the school’s history, the Warriors have opened with a pre-season rank of #24!  While many may attribute this to Heisman Trophy candidate UH quarterback Colt Brennan, the team’s most recognizable player, Brennan knows he wouldn’t look good without the abilities of his teammates.  Brennan tells the Honolulu Star Bulletin:

“As far as me and John Estes, we have a great relationship. He started on the O-line last year, so I have a lot of confidence in him,” Brennan said. “Right now it’s all preliminary — we’re just walking through. As we move into camp we’ll improve our relationships with all our linemen and running backs so that they’re happy to block for us.  “John’s a very humble and hungry kid. I’m really happy that he’s at the center position. As practice progresses throughout the summer we’re going to become closer.”

colt.jpgYesterday was the first day of practice for the boys and Brennan was sporting a dreadlocked do to support his four starting receivers Davone Bess, Ryan Grice-Mullins, CJ Hawthorne and Jason Rivers all wear their hair in that manner.  He said he was bullied into it by teammates and wanted to prove that even with all the hype he’s not taking himself too seriously.

I can’t wait for another season of Warrior Football to start and to see Vili the Warrior on the sidelines cheering our boys on to victory.  My hope is with Hawaii’s top 25 ranking that the world will begin to notice  what talented guys they have in Hawaii and maybe my dream team match up between Ohio State and the Warriors for the first wild card game of a season may not be a pipe dream forever!
