Hawaii Dog or Colorado Dog…who do you prefer?

Filed Under Hawaii TV | Leave a Comment

We always get tons of hits after an episode of Dog airs so I know fans will eventually stumble upon us.  I read an article in Hawaii magazine about when is Dog the Bounty Hunter coming back to Hawaii?  The short answer is apparently soon but their time will be split between Hawaii and Colorado and neighbor islands should be a more prominent feature in the coming season.  I watch the show every week and I have to say that I didn’t realize what a draw the scenery and people of Hawaii were until they were no longer featured.  Colorado shows have been very boring for me to watch.  So that got me wondering what the fans of the show prefered.  See the poll below and vote only once please.  If you have further thoughts on your preference you’d like to share, feel free to do so in the comments section.

Do you like Dog the Bounty Hunter in Hawaii or Colorado?

Bounty hunter Tim Chapman in court

Filed Under Current Events, Hawaii TV | 2 Comments

Yesterday was not the best of day’s for former Dog the Bounty Hunter regular, Tim Chapman.  He began his trial for indecent exposure and terroristic threatening and was also served divorce papers by his wife Davina.  Chapman was allegedly observed by a woman…err…”pleasuring himself” last year in a parking garage and when approached by a security guard he pulled up his pants in the backseat and then drove out of there allegedly almost hitting the guard.  Chapman’s lawyer maintains Tim was simply changing his clothes when he spilled orange juice on himself.

Dog the Bounty Hunter crew autograph signing tomorrow

Filed Under Hawaii TV, Upcoming Events | Leave a Comment

Duane “Dog” Chapman and his crew will be holding an autograph signing session and posing for pictures tomorrow December 3rd at Da Dog House which is located at 1381 Queen Emma Street right beside Da Kine Bail Bonds.  There is only off street parking available so expect lines or be willing to hoof it to the location.  So if you live on or are visiting Oahu, if you’re a fan you can put this on your to do list.

Hawaii IPTV UH Sports coverage not without start up issues

Filed Under Hawaii TV | 3 Comments

Sigh.  I’m SO pulling for IPTV, you don’t know.  I really am but as a customer, I’m getting rather irritated.  If you’ve been keeping track, you’ll see I was very excited about UH Sports coming to our Hawaii IPTV subscription.  Today we just caught the first two games.  Double sigh.  Here are the notes I took while watching.

Florida vs. Hawaii

About the first 10 minutes or so are nothing but static so screeching it almost induces an ear bleed.  11:42 left on the clock in the 2nd QUARTER is when the commentary for the beginning of the game kicks in.  We’re talking like the “hello everybody and welcome…” kind of stuff.  The audio never synchs and you might as well mute it and put on some Hawaiian music to take the edge off of the irritation that you can’t actually enjoy this big match up.

Hawaii vs. Weber State

This ones a doozy.  I mean I’m surprised they didn’t get calls if people had kids in the room.  Let’s start by saying that the first few minutes are like they had a microphone in the parking lot and you’re listening to the songs they’re playing in the stadium.  I suppose if you’re an avid tailgater this could give you the feeling like you’re there.  Missing the game but there…in the parking lot.  Then you hear the studio mics come on and you have Jim Leahey and Russell Yamanoha doing not commentary but pick up lines as though they’re practicing.  Yes, you’re hearing mic check in addition to some woman yelling in the background.  Here’s where you hear colorful things by the announcers like how one is “Nervous like a bastard”, “I can’t see da frickin’ numbers”,  “She doesn’t know what the hell is going on” and “What the hell is this?”  When they messed up their lines, you knew it.  There were some close moments I was just waiting to hear the F bomb.  I have to admit, I laughed a bit but was shocked that this was not caught.  Again the audio never synchs with the game and another broadcast ruined.

I can only pray the game on the 27th is markedly better or there is little hope for this great idea.

Update:  The game on the 27th against San Jose had the audio issues fixed.  A mass email was sent out to subscribers saying this issue was resolved.  You know I’ll be keeping you up to date as to whether or not the fix is permanent.  Let’s hope so!

Hawaii IPTV is slowly redeeming itself

You may remember this post where I was not completely convinced that Hawaii IPTV was worth the money yet.  Since then, they’ve added a few shows…none that I’ve been overly impressed with but I’m sure there’s an audience for them.  I would be happier if they got licenses for more current episodes of shows they already feature.  Today I got the following update that *may* just cause me to renew my subscription

We are very excited to announce that UH Sports will be available starting this season on Hawaii IPTV! Subscribers will be able to view the best selection of UH Games – Live and On Demand!

Warriors Football, Men’s Basketball, Wahine Volleyball and more - all available with a click of your remote. Follow our home teams from anywhere in the world. Hawaii IPTV brings you select games for the best of UH Athletics Live, Local & On Demand.

I just received the following note from Hawaii IPTV that subscribers or potential subscribers may be interested in:

We are proud to announce that we have signed a contract with the Merrie Monarch Community Festival Organization to be able to broadcast the prestigious week long hula competition live to all of our subscribers in 2009.  We will be the first internet protocol television to have access to the 46 year old event.

Our Vice President, Kimberly Dey, recently released the following statement to the media:

“It’s an honor to be able to have the Merrie Monarch Festival as a part of Hawaii IPTV. This event showcases Hawaii at its finest and is so rich in history and culture. We’re thrilled to be given the opportunity to share it with our customers around the world. This is an event that our customers have looked forward to enjoying since we first launched our service. Behind the scenes at Food Network Challenge: part 2

Filed Under Food Finds, Hawaii TV, Hollywood in Hawaii | 2 Comments

img_0732.jpgWhen they near the end of the challenge they start doing some pick up lines which is when you hear them say things like “competitors you have 1 hour left” or “get your proteins out of the imu” well after the proteins have been taken out.  People began showing up in droves and sat in all of the chairs.  Wimps!  We were good and red and we’d only been there 2 hours at the time things peaked at their fever pitch.  As time winded down, all of the chefs were scrambling to make things look just right for the judges.  With about 3 minutes left, Bill Yosses decides to whip out a chainsaw to present his drink or some aspect of his dish in an ice sculpture and his blade broke so that shot that idea!  (They later had us “react” to his blade breaking as well as looking forward like we were watching the chefs when no one was up there at the time and clapping and getting audience shots.  Ooh we were so big time)  Regardless, everyone finished on time though technically they had an extra 20 seconds.  We started the countdown and one of the producers ran in front of the camera to grab something and we had to stop.  Then when they got situated, we began the 5 second countdown again.  Everyone cheered wildly and were encouraged to be boisterous and loud.  The chefs shook hands and hugged and were glad standing over boiling pots in 100+ degree heat was done.  Bev and Sam were at his kitchen resting when he motioned us up to his kitchen.  Ooh we felt so privileged going past the ropes!  LOL  He introduced us to Bev who was very nice and we all chit chatted.  Then Keegan saunters up to all of us for an interview for the crowd.  (See above pic)
